I’ll be spending at least 18 months in Japan, and so in my best effort to not waste my time I have combined a sort ‘bucket list’ of various things I want to do/ achieve/ create/ visit/ etc.
If the list looks short, it’s because I’ll be gradually adding new things every now and again (basically, whenever I can think of something). If you have any extra suggestions, let me know!
Without further ado…
Travel
- Visit all 47 prefectures (11/47 completed..)
- Visit the tori gate in Miyajima
- Capture a nice HK Peak-esque night-view atop Mt. Rokko
- Visit Ogasawara Islands
- Stay overnight at a capsule hotel
- Visit Aogashima island (it’s a volcano within a volcano!) preferably via the ferry -> helicopter route
- Conquer fears and go snorkeling in Okinawa
- Ski in Hokkaido (preferably multiple times!) & Toyama
Eat/ Drink
- Two words: sake + izakaya
- …and on a similar note: Kayabuchi Izakaya – famous for its monkey waiters!
- Nomihoudai (all you can drink)
- Try a square watermelon if I can afford it
- Eat fugu (blowfish/ pufferfish) and not get poisoned
Experience
- Tsukiji Fish Market (even if I don’t get along well with sushi…)
- Take and pass the JLPT N2 language exam (seeing as I am here for language study…)
- Sing my heart out at karaoke
- Complete at least one Pokémon game in Japanese
- Go to all 13 Pokémon centers/ stores (5/ 13 completed..) – including the Hiroshima one set to open later this year!
- Explore the backstreets of Ginza (and find some hidden izakaya
- Rollerblade at Tokyo Dome City
- See the ASINO robot and visit the National Museum of Emerging Science & Innovation (inner geek represent)
- Try out the multi-sport Round 1 facilities at Odaiba
Aaaaannd… that’s it! As I said, I’ll update this every now and again with more items, and also cross things off once I complete them. Let me know if you think of anything I should add (no doubt I’ve missed some ‘do-before-I-die’ things), or share your own bucket list with me 🙂 .
